On paper it’s a decent staff. Oswalt finally starting to come around, hopefully.

Top 4 are very solid….but I think the last 2 are a bit of a reach. Lohse isnt bad obviously since he’s 3-0 thus far…but hes only K’d 14 through 34+ innings while walking 8 which isnt a good ratio. Usually numbers like that will come back to bite you. He can be serviceable though. Max had a pretty good start his first time out so you never know, but I’m a bigger fan of the proven options when it comes to pitching. They tend to be more consistant.
Side note: Whoever above said Oswalt is garbage is an absolute moron. Apparently garbage is another word for Hall of Famer. And the fact Halladay isn’t getting wins is by NO MEANS his fault. The guy pitched 4 consecutive complete games already this year. If you go the distance and dont get the win…that usually means your offense gave you nothing.
U heeft een aantal goede punten en slechte punten. Roy Halladay is een werkpaard, geen twijfel mogelijk. Hij racks up innings, krijgt u 15-20 wint, vult spelletjes, randapparatuur en zijn zeer goed. Dat gezegd, elk jaar iets mis lijkt te gaan met deze jongen. Je hoeft alleen te worden voorbereid voor als dat gebeurt. Ik ben ook bezorgd over hoe het bedrag van innings zal gevolgen hem als we in de tweede helft van het seizoen. Ik ben hoger op Roy Oswalt dan anderen. Ik denk dat hij heeft een grote opdracht van zijn plaatsen, hij wint, is hij van nummers, en hij is een man die u in staat bent te grijpen in het midden rondes van het ontwerp dat is 1) betrouwbare en 2) effectief is. Tim Hudson is moeilijker te lezen. Je denkt dat hij beter moet worden dan hij is. Ik had een bericht over hem op mijn blog een week of twee geleden en opgemaakt wat stats: hij is nooit gewonnen dubbelcijferige spelletjes, nooit een ERA onder 4.00, heeft geen goede historische WHIP en batsman hit ,270 tegen hem in zijn carrière. Ik ben gewoon te wachten tot de andere toon te laten vallen met deze kerel. Misschien Duncan doet wonderen als pitching coach, maar Lohse plaatsen te contacteren (geen staking veel jongens uit) en heb je af te vragen wanneer dat zal inlopen met hem. Max Scherzer is "de volgende grote ding." Goede zet hem plukken, maar, net als Johnny Cueto, hij zal hebben goede en slechte dagen. Voor groentje kruiken, wordt over het maken van aanpassingen na een paar begint. De jongens kunnen zijn die verblijf succesvol. Zijn stuff is elektrisch, maar je moet weer de ups en downs. Ook u hebt om te zien hoe Doug Davis' terugkeer zal gevolgen hem. Met Davis terug, er is niet echt een plek in de rotatie voor hem. Roy Halladay is a workhorse, no doubt about it. He racks up innings, will get you 15-20 wins, completes games, and his peripherals are very good. That said, every year something seems to go wrong with this guy. You just have to be prepared for when that happens. I’m also concerned about how the amount of innings will impact him as we move into the second half of the season.
I’m higher on Roy Oswalt than others. I think he has great command of his pitches, he wins, he puts up numbers, and he’s a guy that you’re able to grab in the middle rounds of the draft that’s 1) reliable and 2) effective. Tim Hudson is tougher to read. You think he should be better than he is. Again, a good middle round grab in most drafts, but I’m concerned about his approach to teams with more veteran lineups. They seem better able to wait for him to throw strikes and less prone to chasing his splitter down in the zone and off speed pitches away. He doesn’t have that plus-fastball that he can make mistakes with either.
Lincecum is one of two Giants pitchers worth owning, but be prepared for growing pains. He’s never pitched a full season at the major league level and the Giants may want to control his innings. You don’t pile them on early in a young pitchers career. It becomes dangerous. My other issue is that he may sacrifice wins because of his offense.
Enjoy Kyle Lohse while you can. I had a post about him on my blog a week or two ago and put up some stats: he’s never won double-digit games, never had an ERA under 4.00, doesn’t have a good historic WHIP and batters hit .270 against him in his career. I’m just waiting for the other show to drop with this guy. Maybe Duncan is doing wonders as pitching coach, but Lohse pitches to contact (doesn’t strike many guys out) and you have to wonder when that will catch up with him.
Max Scherzer is “the next big thing”. Good move picking him up, but, like Johnny Cueto, he’ll have good days and bad. For rookie pitchers, it becomes about making adjustments after a few starts. The guys that can are the ones that stay successful. His stuff is electric, but you’ll have to weather the ups and downs. Also, you have to see how Doug Davis’ return will impact him. With Davis back, there isn’t really a spot in the rotation for him. He hasn’t really been stretched out much either and will have to build up the innings. Lyon is closing effectively and Pena is a good 8th inning guy. It will come down to what they want to do when that bridge comes up.
