Who will win the NL Cy Young award?

Workout650 asked:

If you knew anything about baseball you wouldn’t consider anybody but Brandon Webb or Tim Lincecum. I personally think Lincecum SHOULD win it but i doubt he will.. what do you think?

Please don’t anyone say C.C.! It should be Webb, 19-5 right now. Lincecum should get some votes plus he plays on a horrible team. Dempster and C.C. will also get some votes. C.C. is good, but the others mentioned played a full NL season. When Sutcliffe won in 1984, he went 16-1 after coming over in June from Cleveland. Andujar won 20 that year but he lost 14. Too many good picks in front of C.C. for him to win.

    Volquez is out there.
CC has even been a possibility if the Brewers make the playoffs because of what he has done.
I am leaning towards Webb though, Lincecum is a mighty fine pitcher and will get one though thats for sure.

It does not matter on full season for CC, if he wins every decision from now on, and is a deciding factor for the Brewers, also with his lights out NL stats (oh leading in CG…and not a full season), can just as easily deserve it.

your absolutely right, the only two pitchers with a chance are Webb and Lincecum. Personally, i think Lincecum is the *better* pitcher, unfortunately his team doesnt provide enough offensive support to get his win count up. His ERA is fantastic, and if he played for the diamondbacks he would have 20+ wins and take the cy young. Unfortunately, the cy young award is extremely win-biased, Webb basically has it locked.

Brandon Webb. Lincecum has great numbers, but wins are an important statistic for a pitcher too.

Alright, I’m gonna be completely honest, I don’t think that Brandon Webb will even be in the top 2 by the end of the season.

If people remember, Webb has a tendency to COMPLETELY fall apart in September.

It’ll be between Lincecum and CC.

Lincecum will win it, unless CC would go around 14-0 with an ERA under 2.00, AND the Brewers make the playoffs, which is actually a fairly good possibility.

    1. Tim Lincecum
    2. Brandon Webb
    3. C.C. Sabathia
    4. Edison Volquez

It all really depends, if the Brewers make the playoffs C.C. might win it but if The D-Backs do (cuz who else is gonna win the NL West) Webb’s chances increase. It’s not really fair to Lincecum or Volquez cuz they’re on bad teams. But Lincecum is 15 and 2 on a team below 500 so he probably has it and he’s leading the league in K’s so nevermind, Lincecum is probably a lock

I agree with you on one count. It should be a duel between Webb and Lincecum. Where I disagree with you, however, is that I think Webb should win it (provided he keeps his season-long pace).

    Ryan Dempster

The Way they pick cy youngs Webb will obviously win. They go by wins as very important.

It has to be Tim Lincecum. In the pitching triple crown, he leads two out of the three categories (Ks and ERA) by a good margin. He is second in the league in wins and accounts for over a quarter of his team’s wins. Webb is having a good year and may actually win this. Both pitchers have factors working against them. For Lincecum, the lack of national attention due to playing on a horrible team and missing the All-Star Game with the flu hurts, as does the emergence of Edinson Volquez, who some voters could assume is having a similar season to Lincecum’s. Also, having won the award already, Webb is a household name, so he will get the benefit of the doubt on a lot of east coast ballots. Webb could be penalized for playing in a weak division and getting only four of his wins against winning teams. With Dan Haren also having a great season, he might take a few votes from Webb. I agree that this is a two horse race. Sabathia would have to continue winning every start and holding the opposition nearly scoreless while leading Milwaukee to the playoffs to even be considered. If he does that, then Webb and Lincecum would have to pray that purists would not vote for Sabathia (league switch) because the media attention he has received would seal the deal for him on the east coast. All that being said, the statistics indicate that Lincecum is the most deserving Cy Young candidate, but history indicates that Webb will be the recipient .

    Tim Lincecum
after his last start, I mean WOW!
    that curve was just amazing!

    National League Triple Crown Rankings

    Tim Lincecum

    Wins (2nd)
    Strikeouts (1st)
    ERA (1st)

    Brandon Webb

    Wins (1st)
    Strikeouts (8th)
    ERA (6th)

In my opinion there is no contest, the award must go to Lincecum.

  14. Razz Strategy

I’m a die hard Lincecum fan, so I say The FreaK. He has outsanding numbers and starting to earn wins. It shouldn’t be Webb because he leaves the game in the 4th inning. Lincecum plays 7-8 innings.

  15. MMA Betting

It should be Lincecum. But fools will end up picking Webb as CY Young because he has a better team with more wins (overrated stat).
